Cardinals name Mike Matheny manager Fox Sports Midwest ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals have named former Gold Glove catcher Mike Matheny as their next manager and will formally introduce him at a Monday morning press conference at Busch Stadium. Matheny, 41, takes over the World Series champions despite having no coaching or managing experience in professional baseball. He's been a guest catching instructor at spring training in recent years, a special assistant to general manager John Mozeliak and an analyst on the FOX Sports Midwest pregame and postgame shows.
