Sports Talk

“One of the premier sports announcers in the Midwest,” is how Bill Rowe, Director of Athletics for Missouri State University, describes Art Hains. In May 1995, Art was named Sports Director for Meyer Communications’ stations.  Art does morning sportscasts on KWTO-AM 560, Jock 98.7 FM, KTXR 101.3 FM and KBFL 99.9 FM and coordinates MeyerComm‘s extensive sports coverage. “I’ll do whatever it takes to stay on the air,” laughs Art, referring to a particularly trying broadcasting situation. Being the veteran he is, Art ran around a corner from the press box to a pay phone in order to broadcast the remaining hour-and-a-half of a football game, when lightning had knocked out the phone system!”

Art hails from Marshall, Missouri, and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University. He worked in the Dallas market for four years at KRLD.  Art’s duties there included pre-game and post-game shows for the Dallas Cowboys radio broadcast.Since 1985, Art has been the lead announcer on radio for Missouri State football and men’s basketball.  Tune in to Art either on Sportstalk or during his play-by-play broadcasts.  He loves his work and it shows!

Besides his play-by-play as voice of the Missouri State Bears responsibilities, Art hosts Sportstalk every Monday through Friday from 5:00-7:00 PM on Jock 98.7 FM.  You can hear Art’s familiar voice on KTXR through Art Hains Sports  at 6:25 am and 7:15 am.
